One Last Hug

I replay that moment in my mind

When you were leaving, said goodbye

And I didn’t move to hug you––embrace you

Because I arrogantly thought

“I’ll see you soon”

Little did I know when I saw you again

It wouldn’t be you––not really

It was a shell of who you’d been

In a casket of white

Where you soul was absent

And the stained glass light

Proved your hollowness

I reimagine that moment

Trick myself into believing that

My arms had wrapped around you

My cheek pressed against yours

In sisterly love

For one last time

Before you were gone from me

In this life.
